If you use your phone, apply your lipstick, or snack on a burger while driving, you’re not alone. But distracted driving is dangerous. According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA), distracted driving was involved in 16% of traffic accident-related fatalities and 20% of traffic accident injuries.
As reported by the Ottawa Sun, Allstate insurance agents saw 91 distracted motorists at a single intersection in just one hour. The article said agents in 11 other Canadian cities observed similar scenarios. Allstate Agency Manager, J.C. Larabie, said this concerns him because “80% off collisions are caused by distracted driving.”
