You know there are certain things you have to do to care for your car in the winter, like putting on snow tires, keeping tires properly inflated, and using antifreeze.
But we’ll bet you didn’t know that you have to take care of your windshield.
So how do you do it?
Keep the glass clean. Stuck-on dirt can lead to scratches on the glass, so don’t be afraid to use your windshield washer fluid liberally. And in the winter months, use a formula that has anti-freeze or anti-fog properties.
Change your wipers regularly. When wipers get old, the rubber starts to harden and degrade, making them less effective and leading to scratches on your windshields. Ask us about special winter blades that are designed to clear snow and ice effectively.
Don’t use “alternative” scrapers to clean ice from your windshield. A metal spatula is not an approved ice-clearing device. Grab a plastic scraper with a snow brush at your local auto supply store.
Get chips and cracks repaired immediately. Temperature fluctuations caused by rapidly heating your windshield with the defroster can cause chips and cracks to spread. If a rock dings your windshield, find a Crackmasters shop fast.
