Windshield glass has come a long way. Modern windshields now have cool features such as rain sensors.
Rain sensors are most commonly installed luxury vehicles, such as Audis and BMWs, but as technology improves, rain sensors are becoming more commonplace on mid-line models.
There are several different types of rain sensors. Some look like cameras, while others look like gel packs, but they all use reflective technology. Simply, if the water passes over the sensor, it can’t sense as much light and the windshield wipers turn on automatically.
In most vehicles, the windshield rain sensor is attached to the glass on the inside of the windshield near the review mirror or near the lower edge of the glass where it can’t obstruct the driver’s view.
A windshield rain sensor is a neat feature, for sure, and one you’ll want to keep if you ever need a windshield replacement. Be sure to tell us if your windshield has a rain sensor when you contact us for a repair or replacement quote.
