Windshield treatments that repel rain can help you see better in bad weather. They also can reduce the time you spend scraping your windshield in the morning. There are many rain repellent products available, including Rain-X and Aquapel.
Rain-X is a silicone-based glass treatment that causes water to bead up on a surface to which it’s applied. Aquapel Glass Treatment consists of fluoridated compounds, which allow it to form a chemical bond with the glass, improving its ability to repel water versus silicone-based products.
A post at AutoBlog details a reader’s home test of both products. Take a look at the video here.
His test showed that both products needed a little speed, about 40mph, to whisk water off the windshield, but the Aquapel-treated side fared better in the rain. The experiment also revealed that windshield wipers reduce the effectiveness of the Rain-X over time, but that the Aquapel was still repelling rain eight months later.
Aquapel is available at your local Crackmasters shop.
